A full day of tournament play hosted by Blitz Minis Singapore on 22 October 2022 saw fierce competition between 9 hardened veterans and 1 easily trounced newbie (i.e. me), with representation from every faction across Eä.

I am Reuben, a newcomer to the game, sharing a snippet of my experience at what was a great afternoon of dice rolling and many laughs (and equally as many curses) with a rapidly growing Conquest community in Singapore.

1ST PLACE – ZACH LAU (Old Dominion)

  • Strategos: Aura of Malice, Dominion 1, Legio 'Primigenia', Skofnung
    • Legionnaires (3)
    • Legionnaires (3)
    • Praetorian Guard (5): Leader, Profane Reliquary, Standard Bearer
    • Kataphractoi (4): Hetairos, Leader, Standard Bearer
  • Archimandrite: Arcane 3, Hazlia's Touch, Unholy Baptism, Blasphemous Soma
    • Legionnaires (3): Leader
    • Bone Golems (3)
    • Bone Golems (3)
    • Kheres (3): Insanity

Coming in first was Zach, bringing a strong show of force with his Old Dominion army. If you thought Aura of Death on one unit of Bone Golems was pain to overcome, try two! With Praetorian Guard holding the line and Kataphractoi on the flanks, Zach took a commanding victory over all (but not any resolve tests – after all, the undead fear none).

2ND PLACE – EDWARD YEO (Dwegholm)

  • Hold Raegh: Long Lineage, Draegbhrud, Gifted in Fire, Combat 2
    • Dragonslayers (3): Leader, Standard Bearer
    • Dragonslayers (3): Leader, Standard Bearer
    • Hold Thanes (6): Herald of Stone, Leader, Standard Bearer
    • Hold Ballistae (3): Leader
  • Tempered Sorcerer: Hellbringer Sorcerer, Memory of Breath, Coruscation
    • Hellbringer Drake (1)
    • Fireforged (3): Flamecaster, Leader, Standard Bearer
    • Fireforged (3): Leader, Standard Bearer

Next was first runner up Edward, with a line of Dragonslayers supported by a formidable barrage of shooting and flame. The firstborn children of War, crafted by dragons, had no problem cleaving through the competition, including multiple Jotnars (to the loud cries of anguish from Nord stalwart and Jotnar enthusiast Jack Chan), but ultimately took second by slim margin on points to Zach’s Old Dominion.

3RD PLACE – G RISHIIKEASAN (Old Dominion)

  • Archimandrite: Hazlia's Touch
    • Kheres (3): Insanity
    • Kheres (3): Insanity
    • Bone Golems (3)
    • Praetorian Guard (6): Leader, Standard Bearer, Profane Reliquary
  • Strategos: Aura of Malice, Regalia 2, Legio 'Primigenia'
    • Legionnaires (3): Leader, Icon Bearer
    • Legionnaires (3): Leader, Icon Bearer
    • Praetorian Guard (5): Leader, Profane Reliquary, Standard Bearer
    • Kataphractoi (3): Hetairos, Leader, Standard Bearer

Third of the worthy winners was Rishii, with an Old Dominion list centred on causing more death via aura, brought by a core of Praetorian Guard with Bone Golems for good measure. Despite being cobbled together at the last minute, Rishii’s army clobbed most (including me) over the head with its refusal to perish. The shambling undead are perhaps more robust than they sound.

MY LIST

  • Fallen Divinity
  • Archimandrite: Blasphemous Soma, Hazlia's Touch
    • Kheres (3): Drain Will
    • Praetorian Guard (3): Leader, Profane Reliquary
  • Strategos: Aura of Malice, Regalia 2, Legio 'Primigenia', Aventine Armor
    • Legionnaires (3): Leader
    • Legionnaires (3): Leader
    • Praetorian Guard (6): Leader, Profane Reliquary
    • Kataphraktoi (3): Hetairos, Leader
  • Hierodeacon
    • Legionnaires (3): Leader

The Fallen Divinity was what first caught my eye and brought me into the game. How, then, could I not make such an apparition of death the centrepiece of my army? I did, and she wiped the table of every unit that she came into contact with. It took more than Benjamin Lin’s 2 multicoloured Apex Predators (fondly named McCrispy and Disco Dino) to take her down, and she remains my favourite model in the Conquest range. I’ll choose to forget that she killed more of my army than any opponent did.

The day concluded with each and every player walking away with prizes which included an army starter set, and goodies from the Conquest Tournament Kit. For preying on the competition, Zach walked away with an Apex Predator model sponsored by Parabellum Games. I am happy to say I fought off the other gentlemen to take home unique shields and head sculpts for my Praetorian Guard, and I am already working on equipping more troops with these for the next tournament. How the swanky new shields hold up against barrages (or friendly fire from a literal undead deity) remains to be seen. Safe to say that I am a new convert to the game.
